Hi I’m Aislinn the voice behind Dream DIY !
Hey Dreamers!
Thanks for stopping by.
My name is Aislinn which means Dream in Irish and unknown to my parents at the time; it's the perfect name for me as I am a total dreamer. I'm married to Seamus my red-headed Kerry man, and together we are renovating our 140-year-old Victorian home in Co Armagh, Ireland. It's a real labour of love, but I wouldn't want it any other way. Follow us on our DIY journey as we to create our DREAM home, one DIY project at a time.
Love Aislinn xx

HOME
The Door of Two Tales… Past and Present
“An old house that had lived its life long ago and so was very quiet and wise and a little mysterious”
L.M. Montgomery, Emily's Quest
That’s how I felt about our house when I first viewed it, I instantly wondered about who lived there before and what tales it had to tell. Every time we do up a room or take down a wall we find something about it’s past, it may sound strange but I believe it wants us to know where it came from.
“Life is a first impression. You get one shot at it. Make it everlasting.”
― J.R. Rim
I always think a door can tell a lot about the house you are about to enter! As the old saying goes first impressions last! This is our side door and the entrance to the heart of our home our kitchen, so when people come through it I want it to look warm and inviting! See how I achieved this look in a few easy steps:)
"Your home should tell the story of who you are and be a collection of what you love” NATE BERKUS
I agree 100%, your home should mirror who you are as a person, your style, your personality and your aura. I always try to keep this in mind when starting to design a new room.
GARDEN
See All in Garden
”Those who garden together, Stay together ”🙈 Like everyone, my plans have been put on hold this month. I was hoping to get our living room plastered, but at the moment that can't happen and although usually, I'd try my hand at most DIY projects, I think that one is just a little too advanced for me lol...👷🏻♀️ So, out to the garden, it is! 👩🏻🌾
This is my latest Dream DIY project. I got the idea from a picture I saw on Pinterest about a year ago where there was an arched window placed in a wall of ivy and I have been wanting to recreate it in our own garden since.
Ever since the Giro D'Italia came to Belfast a few years ago I have wanted to have a pink bike in my garden and this week I finally found time to do a little Dream DIY makeover on an old bike I had inherited from my dad!
Lifestyle
It is common knowledge that I am fascinated by photos and old photos especially. I adore looking through our family albums and can happily spend hours listening to my parents telling stories about the family members who are peering up at us through the faded dog-eared pictures that I keep safely in an old leather suitcase.
As I peered out my bedroom window I noticed that a wheelbarrow had been moved from the driveway to underneath the tree on our front lawn. This was not the first time I had noticed that gardening tools had been moved around and between you and me I started to think that the house we had just bought, was in fact haunted.
Ever since I put up the blog post about our wedding, I have had so many questions about our wedding cake! Looking back on our big day I am still overwhelmed at just how beautiful a job, Kathryn from Candytuft Cakes did making our cake. She really is a cake genius and I really believe no one else would have had the creativity to bring my vision to life.
When friends who are in the process of getting married ask me " How did you choose your dress and theme for your wedding?" I always give the same advice, "stay true to yourself and your style and everything else will fall into place," As a wedding videographer I have witnessed so many weddings and the last thing you want is the groom standing at the top of the aisle wondering who the girls is beside him lol.....! Just remember your husband to be loves you for being you so don't panic, whatever you wear make sure YOU love it and I am 100% confident he will too!
When deciding to start this blog it was to document my journey as I try to restore a 19th Century house and make it into a home and a family one at that.
Seamus's name will be popping up on many occasions as I explore my passion for DIY as he's my right hand man! So, to get to know us a little better I thought I would share with you how a blue eyed boy from Kerry ending up marrying a freckled faced girl from Belfast. Here is our story!
The topic of having an engagement shoot in our house was greeted by an immediate “nooooooo, not a chance," followed by “ Are you serious? There’s no way I am having one of those, everyone will think I’m a poser! Seamus voiced across the dinner table in his cheerful Kerry brogue.” At the time I did understand where he was coming from, he like many people in the world just does not feel comfortable in front of a camera but as the shoot was included in our wedding photography package I’m managed to twist his arm! It would have been a shame to waste it? Right! lol...
